The Craving for Design

The Craving for Design

I recently attended an event in Napa at the Silverado Resort called She Rallies, and as a women-owned company, the experience felt especially meaningful. Being surrounded by so many inspiring women reminded me why design matters so much to me and why I started Courtship in the first place.

People often ask me how I come up with my designs. The truth? It feels effortless. Designs come to me constantly, while walking the dog, out on a run, or during quiet moments when my mind has space to wander. Ideas suddenly appear, fully formed, and I’ve learned to stop whatever I’m doing and write them down before they disappear.

I’m drawn to timeless patterns: plaids, polka dots, and argyles in traditional court and course colors; greens, navies, browns, and crisp whites. These are designs that feel classic, chic, and fun all at once.

I often think about my brown Burberry skirt. It’s timeless and polished, yet playful at the same time, the pleats, the structure, the oversized safety pin. That balance of sophistication and fun is exactly what inspires me.

In November 2025, I became obsessed with the idea of creating an entire spring collection in black and white. I designed plaids, polka dots, and argyles all in monochrome. Then I was stunned when Pantone announced white as the 2026 Color of the Year, with black-and-white combinations becoming a major design focus for the year ahead. It felt like confirmation.

My belief is simple: the world craves athletic apparel that isn’t boring. We want clothing that feels elevated, not loud or cheesy, but crisp, classic, and beautifully designed. Pieces that make us feel confident the moment we put them on.

The way you feel slipping into your favorite dress before a night out, that same feeling should exist in sportswear. Why shouldn’t getting dressed for tennis, golf, or pickleball feel just as exciting?

Life is too short for boring athletic clothes, or for endless outfit changes. You should feel confident in what you wear on the court, on the course, and everywhere in between.

Wear it boldly. Wear it confidently. Wear it everywhere.
